Food for Thought
Leave Out ViolencE British Columbia now offers Food for Thought workshops for adults.  Workshops can take place over lunch hours at workplaces, at Parent Advisory Committee meetings, or any other location where groups of adults convene. Workshops are offered free of charge to all interested adult groups. Honorariums for presentations are greatly appreciated. Workshops topics include:

  • Bullying: LOVE's Program Director and Youth Leaders will facilitate a workshop for parents and other adults on bullying issues - they will examine what a bully looks like, what types of children and youth are likely to be victims of bullying, what the current strategies are that schools use to deal with bullying and why they aren't working, and how to support your child if they are a victim of bullying or if they are a bully.
  • Drugs and Alcohol: The workshop will center around the current youth culture with relation to substance use and abuse, it will provide parents and other adults with information about the drugs that are prevalent today, what signs parents should look for that indicate use/abuse of drugs and how they should approach their children to discuss issues relating to substance use and abuse.
  • Violence in the Media: What video games are our kids playing?  What television shows and movies are they most attracted to? What effect is increasing violence in the media having on children and youth?  How can parents monitor the amount of violent media their kids are exposed to?

If you would like to schedule LOVE's staff and youth to facilitate a workshop for your group, please call the Leave Out ViolencE BC office at 604.709.5728.
